Scott Huennekens will deliver the Keynote address at the 2021 Emerging Medtech Summit.  He will also sit on a panel to discuss the current state of Medtech SPACs.

Huennekens is a successful executive, entrepreneur, board member and investor in medical devices having been the start-up CEO of multiple “unicorns” and a part of 10+ startups or growth companies with market valuations that have totaled over $6B and more importantly > 20 million patients that have benefited from the therapies & diagnostics of these companies. He currenty serves as Chairman of the Board for Acutus Medical and Vida FLaSH Acquisitions Corp (Medtech SPAC).   Scott served as Pres & CEO of Verb Surgical, Google and J&J’s new Surgical Robotics start-up to revolutionize the future of surgery in January. Previously, Scott led Volcano Corp., as its first and only Pres. & CEO, from start-up in 2002 to its IPO in 2006 and sale to Philips in 2015.  Prior to this, he was at Digirad Corporation, a diagnostic imaging solutions provider, from 1997 to 2002, as President & CEO. Digirad went public in 2004 (DRAD). Scott graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BS in Business Administration from the Univ. of Southern California in 1986 and earned his MBA from the Harvard Business School in 1991. Current professional affiliations include Board Member Nuvasive (NUVA), Board Member ViewRay (VRAY), Board Member TDi, Board of Advisors Peloton Ventures, Board Member and past Chairman MDMA.

Paul LaViolette will join us at the 2021 Emerging Medtech Summit during a Fireside Chat to kick off the event.  He'll also attend the event to network and connect with other investors, innovators and strategics.

LaViolette has over 35 years of global medical technology management experience.  He is an active investor, industry insider and sits on the Board of several medical device companies.  He also currently serves as Managing Partner & COO of SV and heads up their medical device investments.

Prior to SV, Paul built and ran medical device businesses for 29 years before joining SV Health Investors. Most recently he was Chief Operating Officer at Boston Scientific (BSC), an $8 billion medical device leader. During his 15 years at BSC, Paul served as Chief Operating Officer; Group President, Cardiovascular; President, Cardiology; Group President, Endosurgery; and President, International. During his tenure, the company grew revenue over 20 times. Paul integrated two dozen acquisitions and led extensive product development, manufacturing and worldwide commercial organizations. Previously, Paul held marketing and general management positions at CR Bard and various marketing roles at Kendall (Medtronic).

Outside of SV, Paul serves as Chairman of the Medical Device Manufacturing Association and as Vice Chairman of the Innovation Advisory Board for the Partners Health System. Paul also served on the board of Advamed for 10 years and is a routine speaker at industry meetings.

Ken Nelson will attend the 2021 Emerging Medtech Summit to network and connect with other investors, strategics and innovators.  Ken presented at LSI's 2020 event as the Chief Commercialization Officer of Bardy Diagnostics.

Nelson currently serves as Head of Digital Health, Diagnostics, & Monitoring at Biotronik.  He has deep industry experience and a 20 year track record in digital health, medical device, and remote patient monitoring.  Nelson is an executive and innovator with successful senior leadership experience ranging from a Fortune 500 company (Boston Scientific) to 3 start-ups, 1 of which eventually led to an extremely successful IPO (iRhythm) and another which is well on its way to doing the same (Bardy Diagnostics).

Renee Ryan is recognized as an industry insider and leading investor, deal-maker, and innovator.  She will present Cala Health at the 2021 Emerging Medtech Summit.

Ryan has 25 years of building category-creating healthcare companies. She led the medical technology investments for Johnson & Johnson Innovation (JJDC) on the West Coast and Asia Pacific for 8 years. While at J&J, she made over 15 new investments, including the Series A for Cala Health. Previously, she was a healthcare investment banker at RW Baird, Jefferies and Goldman Sachs

Dr. Nicholas Pachuda will be the moderator for the LSI 2021 Strategic Panel. Nick's panelists will include strategics and corporate investors with decades of experience working with entrepreneurs from seed to late stage. They'll share insights, success stories (plus a few war stories), and provide a strategic partnering roadmap for medical technology innovators and their investors.

Brian Shields presented Neurent Medical at LSI's 2020 Emerging Medtech Summit and has since then continued to lead his company through significant fundraising and other key milestones.  

Shields is the co-founder and CEO of Neurent Medical. Brian spent almost a decade working as a management consultant much of this time spent on the design and commercial rollout of connected health clinical programmes in public and private European health systems and “around the pill” services for the pharmaceutical industry. Brian and David founded Neurent Medical, raising their first capital in 2017. Brian has a PhD in Applied Computing and an MBA.

Jennifer is the CEO and Co-Founder of ExplORer Surgical. Jennifer founded the company with Dr. Alex Langerman as an MBA student at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, where she received her degree with honors in Finance and Entrepreneurship.
