Ophthalmological surgery is a highly specialized discipline which involves mainly minimally invasive procedures performed on the eye. The primary types of ophthalmological surgery procedures are phacoemulsification surgery performed for the treatment of cataracts and refractive surgery utilized for correction of myopia. In 2017, the number of ophthalmological surgery procedures performed worldwide totaled approximately 24.3 million.
